West is best…

North West Scotland was the place to be over the last few days with a North Easterly wind most of the bad weather was confined to the East.
So far this week Lawrie Kidd and myself have been climbing at Polldubh on the south side of Ben Nevis, Working through all the necessary skills to be let loose on the lead !
Yesterday we climbed Tower Ridge on Ben Nevis in full winter condition. The buffeting winds, Up hill spindrift and whiteout conditions on the summit all added to the memorable day out in the hills.

Winter returns…

In a desperate need to get back on my skis at least once more this winter, the opportunity arose yesterday. Although  conditions weren’t ideal  it was fun to be back out on the planks.

From sunny sport climbing in Dunkeld to the Isles of Skye

The High pressure sitting over Scotland has been pushed away for the moment.

Over the last week I’ve been sports climbing on the superb Upper cave area of Dunkeld  with Mike Brownlow. Plus a quick visit to the Isles of Skye with Sarah Morton.

We stayed at the delightful Achtalean  B&B in the North East of the Isles, run by the very friendly and knowledgable Sue and Greg Walters http://www.isleofskye.net/achtalean/

With another day of good weather we headed in to Sron na Cioche a massive black cliff on the south side of Coire Lagan  which is the most popular mountain crag on Skye, with plenty of well-established classics at most grades.  We set off from the Glen Brittle campsite and Climbed Little Gully VD** and Cioch Slab Corner D* and finshed with a beer in the Sligachan with some friends.
